Where To Watch The 95th Academy Award Nominees

Ed. Note: This article has been revised as of February 21st to reflect some streaming availability, as well as the VOD debuts of previously-missing Tell It Like A Woman and A House Made of Splinters. Everything else is left as originally written

With the nominations for the 95th Academy Awards now officially out in the world, it’s time for the return of my favorite yearly tradition: where to stream every nominee for this year’s Academy Awards. While many of this year’s contenders were released in theaters – often to box office success, as was the case with Top Gun: Maverick, Elvis, Everything Everywhere All At Once, and potential highest-grossing-film Avatar: The Way of Water, many viewers – including readers of this site – are still wary of the theatrical experience. Why risk COVID and obnoxious crowds when you can just watch a movie at home? Therefore, this list will make it easier to find all 53 films currently nominated for the 2022 Oscars.

Now, with this year’s list – which is once again broken down by streaming service for your convenience – there are a couple of glaring omissions. First and foremost, there’s Tell It Like A Woman, which was nominated for Best Original Song. Now, I have scoured the Internet for any evidence that this is a real film. It has a website. YouTube claims it has a trailer. And yet, this film is nowhere. It’s not streaming, it’s not available for VOD, it’s not available on any piracy sites (so I hear). I’m not even sure it was ever released in theaters. There are only 30 reviews out of a potential hundreds of thousands on Letterboxd, and 90% of those all are asking if this film really exists. I don’t think there’s any chance of finding this totally-real, non-Ponzi scheme-related film.

Equally challenging, but at least real, is A House Made of Splinters, one of this year’s documentaries. Due to a contract with PBS, Splinters will not air in the United States until July. Technically, it is available on BBC Four streaming service, but that’s only available in the U.K. I guess, if one were so inclined, they could sign up for a VPN service, change their location to the U.K., sign up for BBC Four, and then watch the film and cancel the VPN. But that sounds like a lot of work. At any rate, the rest of the nominees can be found below, and should assist you in completing your Oscar checklist – as well as you can, anyway. Make sure to comment below with how many films you end up getting through, not to mention your favorites. Happy viewing, y’all!
