After a rapid-fire week of critics’ awards, only one major institution remains: the Los Angeles Film Critics Association! For those of you who don’t remember, LAFCA is a group of the most prominent critics in L.A. Once a year, they gather in a board room, vote on the best films of the year, and yell at each other until a majority can be reached. From what I hear, it’s a lot more fun than it sounds. This year, with plenty of great films to choose from, the question remains of who will eventually emerge victorious. Will they honor a foreign film, like Decision to Leave? An esoteric film, like Tár? Or will they embrace their love of spectacle with Top Gun: Maverick? Anything’s possible.
Because the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards are an all-day ordeal, what with lunch breaks and multiple rounds of voting per category, I will be sharing the results live as they drop, starting at 1:00 pm Eastern Time. You can see the full list of winners below, live as they’re announced, along with the runner-up (which LAFCA also announces).
