Ex Machina was a smash hit last year, earning back a nice little budget, winning an unexpected Oscar over Star Wars and Mad Max, made a name for its star, eventual Oscar winner Alicia Vikander, and inspiring the greatest gifs and Twitter accounts known to man (if you haven’t checked out @oscardances yet, are you really living? So studios are trying to copy that formula going forward, and they might have a real winner with Morgan, a creepy little film from the son of Ridley Scott.
The plot is shrouded in secrecy (thank God), but here’s the official synopsis:
“A corporate troubleshooter (Kate Mara) is sent to a remote, top-secret location, where she is to investigate and evaluate a terrifying accident. She learns the event was triggered by a seemingly innocent “human,” who presents a mystery of both infinite promise and incalculable danger.”
The film is directed by Luke Scott and stars Kate Mara, Anya Taylor-Joy, Boyd Holbrook, Toby Jones (Dobby from Harry Potter), Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight) and Paul Giamatti (everything).
