‘Blade Runner 2049’ Trailer

Confession time: I’m really not that big a fan of Blade Runner. Wait come back don’t go I need you! Yes, I know that’s sort of blasphemous in film critic circles, but outside of some of the greatest set design and cinematography in history, there’s not that much to it. It’s pretentious for pretentiousness’ sake, and I prefer the Phillip K. Dick book. However, while I have no attachment to the original, that doesn’t stop me from having a mild excitement for the upcoming Blade Runner 2049, the upcoming sequel to Ridley Scott’s “classic.”

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

Look, that plot synopsis doesn’t excite me in the slightest (it may even turn me off a little bit), but this trailer does. First off, director Denis Villeneuve is a master at his craft, and this year’s Arrival may end up on my Top Ten list in a few weeks. The fact that they’re capturing the beauty and the magic of the original is also encouraging to me, as that is my only connection to the original. And when you throw in Baby Goose aka Ryan Gosling, you have a movie that has me interested. I’ll be checking this one out on October 6, 2017, and if you’re a true film fan, I’m sure you will be too.
