‘The Disaster Artist’ Trailer

Last night, the critics at the Toronto International Film Festival came out in droves to see The Disaster Artist, James Franco’s newest film about the making of The Room, the worst movie ever made. Presented by Room director Tommy Wiseau himself, the film played like gangbusters, earning heaps of praise and even a few Oscar predictions. And if this new trailer is any indication, that praise may be highly deserved.

Greg Sestero (Dave Franco) has always wanted to be an actor. However, he lacks the confidence needed to take him to the next level. However, he starts to build himself up through a friendship with the intriguing and mysterious figure in his acting class, Tommy Wiseau (James Franco). Nobody knows where Wiseau comes from, or why his acting is so terrible, but he takes Greg under his wing as the two try to navigate Hollywood. However, their friendship becomes strained as Wiseau puts everything on the line to release his “magnum opus.” And thus, the Worst Movie Ever Made was born.

Look, I’ve made it very clear I love The Room. It is one of my favorite movies of all time in its hilarious awfulness. I’ve even met Tommy at a screening, and he is every bit as eccentric as they say, but he is also one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I’m glad that Franco has found the right tone for this movie, and based on this trailer, I can’t wait to see the final result. The film comes out December 1st, just in time for Oscar season, and you can watch the trailer below.
