It hasn’t been my busiest movie-viewing week ever. I’m still getting used to this whole “writing multiple articles a day” thing. That being said, I did manage to get in seven films over the past week.
I started the week off by finally caving to my father’s demands for a showing of The Wedding Ringer. It was an…interesting film. There are some solid lines sprinkled throughout, but otherwise it’s just your typical idiotic comedy. But I will always love Alan Ritchson, even in a small role such as this one. I caught the documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty, which is a highly entertaining look into the Disney Renaissance. There wasn’t a whole lot I didn’t know, but I’ll never get tired of the story of Disney higher-ups telling the animation staff “Look, this little lion project is cute and all, but Pocahontas is where it’s happening.” I finally got around to How to Be Single, which is really good when the director is playing with conventions, but grinds to a halt when he ends up bowing to them. Dakota Johnson, Alison Brie, Leslie Mann, Anders Holm and especially Rebel Wilson are great in it. I then watched three movies for review this week: the mediocre Genius, the spectacular Swiss Army Man, and the cute BFG. You can find my reviews for these here, here and here. Finally, last night I got around to showing my parents Room. The results were disastrous, with my father hating it and my mother being mortified. However, I still say that movie is remarkable, and was the #5 film of last year.
In the world of television, I caught a decent amount of Modern Family and my guiltiest of guilty pleasures, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. Look, no one on that show is really a great actor outside of Christopher Meloni and, in recent seasons, Raúl Esparza, but I could watch Dick Wolf condescend to Ice-T and, to a further extent, the audience all day long. It’s just so stupid and I’m in love. I also tuned in for my weekly Bachelorette viewing, which I got pretty drunk for and passed out the last half hour. It’s just not the same without the Chad-Bear.
Finally, let me just thank you all who have been following the site for its inaugural week. The site has really grown to be a great experience for me, and I hope to keep on doing it for quite some time. I won’t be posting much this coming weekend, I’ll be on vacation, but I will be seeing a few plays and providing a write-up afterwards! So stay tuned!
How about you? What did you watch this week? Leave your thoughts in the comments!
