What I Watched, What You Watched #43

This was a light week of movie viewing, mainly because we’ve had a slow week as we move into the wonderful fall season. In fact, I’ve only seen one film for review, and I’m sure you all know what that is. Yes, I saw It, despite my severe fear of clowns, and apparently most of you did too, as it grossed a staggering $172 million worldwide, and $117 inside the U.S. I’ll have my review up tomorrow, but long story short: it’s good, but left a lot to be desired.

However, I did have a series of pleasant, quiet watches, like Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, which isn’t quite as good as I remember, but was still enjoyable. I also watched the early-year hit Before I Fall. While there were some good moments, I didn’t see what made this movie special in any way, especially when it was just an “edgy” version of Groundhog Day. However, I did see a few films I enjoyed. Darren Aronofsky’s Pi is a strong little thriller. And I had a chance to see the Italian horror classic Suspiria on the big screen in 35 mm, which was an incredible experience. Oh, and I started to rewatch Blade Runner for the fourth time. The first time was a disappointment, and the next two I only half paid attention, but this time I’m trying to actively pay attention to see what I was missing. I’m still not convinced the film is anything special, but it is connecting with me this time in a way it didn’t the first.

Television wise, things picked up as Peak TV returns. Sure, Rick and Morty was on a break, but You’re the Worst returned to make up for it, starting out unique before ending strong. I also watched the new season of American Horror Story, which was a little dull, but had some scary moments. And then there’s the return of BoJack Horseman. After four incredible seasons, I am now convinced that this is at least tied as my favorite show of all time, and one of the greatest, period. This is a show that everyone needs to see, in terms of its jokes, voice acting, and intelligent storytelling.

Did you all see It this weekend? If so, what did you think? Let me know in the comments!
