What I Watched, What You Watched #45

It’s been a fairly light week of film viewing this week, but I’ve seen some real doozies, both good and bad. I’ve seen two films that will be reviewed later this week, Stronger and Logan Lucky. I won’t give away my thoughts on either yet, but I will say both films are great and worth a watch.

Far and away the best film I watched this week was Grave of the Fireflies by Studio Ghibli. The film is a real testament to how incredible animation can be, and is a game changer in the international film industry. I also had a chance to see E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial on the big screen, and while I’ve had an up-and-down relationship with the film, I cannot overstate how overwhelming it is on the big screen. That Steven Spielberg knows how to make a great film. Unfortunately, not every film was an out-of-the-park homer. I saw Ridley Scott’s newest film, Alien: Covenant, and my God, was it bad. I thoroughly hated it throughout. I also haven’t finished any of them yet, but I also watched about half of The Black Stallion, A Separation and The Big Sick (my second favorite film of the year), and while I haven’t developed a strong enough opinion of the first two, I can say that I definitely enjoy what I’ve seen so far.

On television, I’ve been watching Rick and Morty, which is coming off of a great episode last Sunday, South Park, which had one of their best episodes in a long time, and You’re the Worst, which was fine, but not as good as it could have been. Other than that, I’ve just been working a lot and watching a bit of football. Nothing major.

What about you? Did you see Stronger yet, or Logan Lucky when it first came out? What about one of those shows I’m watching. And have you seen Grave of the Fireflies yet, and if not, why? Let me know in the comments!
