What I Watched, What You Watched #7

I’ve had quite the busy week these past couple of days, between interviews, a surgery-laden brother, and housesitting. I only managed to get in one review (Indignation), for crying out loud! That being said, I did manage to squeeze in a ton of films, and even a little bit of television, too.

I spent Sunday and Monday housesitting for some friends without Wi-Fi, so I passed the time watching a bunch of movies. The first was 10 Cloverfield Lane, which is an excellent little thriller, with great performances by Mary Elizabeth Winstead and especially John Goodman. I followed that up with Compliance, which is incredibly difficult to watch, especially knowing it is bordering on documentary. That being said, Ann Dowd is great in it, and it’s a fascinating watch. Meanwhile, my younger brother had his wisdom teeth out, and to distract him from the pain, I got him a charcuterie plate of bad movies, including the previously (and unfortunately) viewed films Norm of the North and the so-bad-it’s-good The Boy Next Door, the newly terrible Nine Lives and The Happening (another so-bad-it’s-good masterpiece), and the camp classics Batman: The Movie (1966) and my brother’s all-time favorite, Bee Movie (I need to point out he is a college student right now. And his favorite film is Bee Movie). Finally, I had the chance to check out Sing Street, which, despite a pretty bad first ten minutes, ended up being a fairly enjoyable film, as well as Hell or High Water, which I will post a review for sometime early next week, but you can see my thoughts early on the State of the Year list. As I’m writing this, I plan on finishing off the ultimate “worst film,” Plan 9 From Outer Space, which is bad, but not nearly as bad as I’d hoped. I’ll also be finishing Akira in the new future, so look out for that.

As for television, still more Olympics, as well as the newest episode of Girl Meets World (naturally). And I read a little bit of Indignation, as preparation for the film.

That’s been my week, and I have another busy week coming up, so stay tuned!
