New Trailer For “Next American Classic” ‘La La Land’

We’re so close to Oscar season it’s almost too much to bear. This means we will be seeing many trailers in the upcoming weeks, especially for the films making their debut at the film festivals. One such trailer arrives today, as we see yet another trailer dedicated to Damien Chazelle’s La La Land.

La La Land is the follow up to the Academy Award-winning film Whiplash, and follows two young artists, pianist Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) and actress Mia (Emma Stone), as they balance love with their busy lives in the great city of Los Angeles. The film is an old-timey musical in the vein of Singin’ in the Rain and Rodgers and Astaire films, and will feature an entirely original score and musical numbers. The last trailer showcased Gosling’s singing chops, and this time around we are treated to Stone’s harmonies with a new song titled “Audition.”

I’ve mentioned before that this film is my most anticipated for the year, and each passing day excites me more for the project. I still have yet to watch a trailer for this film, as I want to go in completely unspoiled to have a pure cinematic experience. However, as we know it is playing two of the three most important festivals this fall (and may appear at the third), and has been called by festival heads “the next American classic,” I think we have not only a great film on our hands, but a major Oscar contender as well. The film will be released December 16, but I’ll be posting early reviews from Venice and Toronto starting next Wednesday. In the meantime, watch the new trailer below.
